Becky triumphs on Road Race debut!

Becky Ridge has had a strong start to her road season this year. She’s picked up her form from where she left off at Cyclo-Cross before a broken and dislocated finger ended her racing. Some great rides in the IDCA TT series have seen her consistently 1st Lady and heading the Non-IDCA member league table.

Becky’s well known, liked and respected locally. Capable of riding in any fast group and holding her own, but until now she’s never tested herself in a Road Race. We all knew she should be able to do well, it was just a question of if any nerves, lack of experience, or team tactics might spoil the day for her. We should have been so worried! This Sunday Becky took the plunge, stepped up and took on the Diss CC 3/4 Women’s race at North Lopham.

In cool, blustery and damp conditions with a vicious headwind down one leg Becky got herself tucked into the break. Some strong riding by the whole break meant they took a commanding lead and were not going to be caught. With a couple of laps to go the games started but Becky made sure she didn’t do too much work. Around the final corner Becky positioned herself well and then launched her finish. At first it looked like she may have gone too soon, but she dug deep, grimaced and grunted (her words not mine!) and held it to the line for victory in her first Road Race.

Amazing ride and win Becky! Well deserved. Absolutely awesome.
